Miniature Silky Fainting Goats The Miniature Silky Fainting goat, also known as a "Mini Silky", is a small goat with a long flowing hair coat that has been developed primarily from fainting goat stock with a little Nigerian Dwarf mixed in along the way. Mini Silkies are now recognized as a distinct breed with their own registry. While many Mini Silkies are myotonic, some will simply carry the gene for myotonia that may be passed on to future generations. Mini Silkies are not required to faint, since the breed is all about a certain "look", rather than myotonia. Our primary goal here at Springs Run is to produce healthy, structurally sound, diminutive goats with long, lustrous elegant coats and pretty dished faces with abundant bangs. Not only are "Mini Silkies" absolutely adorable, they eat weeds, improve pasture and they make wonderful pets and companions.

Note: Because this breed was largely developed using fainting goat stock, many goats may exhibit varying degrees of myotonia, which means they will stiffen up or even fall over when startled. Others will carry a gene for myotonia that will likely express itself in future generations of Mini Silky Fainters. To learn more about myotonia, please read this article by Dr. Phil Sponenberg on
